My favorite quote by poet and advocate Maya Angelou, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better,” has inspired and shaped my perspective on the therapeutic experience.

I value the therapeutic relationship between myself and my clients. It takes honesty, trust, commitment, and faith to be aware and practice new ways of coping, being, thinking, acting, and understanding emotions. Therapy allows us to practice having higher awareness. 

I am here to support you in a safe environment as you seek guidance in exploring and gaining insight into challenging life experiences to grow and strive toward your best well-being. Rather than focusing on becoming, we will focus on being, healing, coping, and doing the work it takes to be your best. 

Melissa Vargas MHC -LP

Melissa received her license in Bilingual School Counseling (with Spanish-proficiency) in 2014 from CUNY Queens College and graduated magna cum laude. She has since been serving the highly diverse youth population throughout Queens, New York to support their social-emotional wellness, academic progress and post-secondary planning. In addition, Melissa is a restorative practitioner who is trained in restoring harm among people and spaces through a lens of anti-racism, equity and inclusion. As the mother of a son with a learning difference, she is expertly equipped to work with special needs populations, including how to navigate education and legal systems. She utilizes a client-centered approach to build rapport and establish a working relationship with clients. Melissa places emphasis on non-judgement and meeting clients where they are to foster comfort, collaboration and growth. She believes that the formula for success is working hard, being kind to others, especially oneself, and she uses this mantra to guide her practice.

 

Lila Gyory, MHC-LP

I have my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through Northwestern University, and I come from an educational and work background in history, visual arts, writing, and community mental health organizing. This unique mix has made me deeply curious about the many facets of the human experience—the highs and lows, the little joys and moments of disappointment, and all the beautiful complexity that makes us who we are. I will use compassion, humor, and honesty to support you as you reconnect with yourself and find wellness, joy, and balance in your life. Together, we can move toward healing and growth.

Whether you're navigating relationships, facing personal struggles, or dealing with the obstacles of work and daily demands, I strive to understand the broader systems influencing your life. Do you experience racing thoughts, unable to sleep, or constantly on alert? Together, we will explore how these systems impact your thoughts, emotions, and overall health.

Your well-being is super important, and I'm here to guide and support you as you handle life's ups and downs. Just remember, your path is unique, and I'm here to help you figure it out based on what you want to achieve.

 As a BIPOC, 1.5-generation Japanese American immigrant I am familiar with the stresses, struggles and challenges of immigration, acculturation, and racialization. I believe we all deserve a space to discover who we are and make changes that allow us to be our authentic selves. I invite you to give over to this process of healing and change and explore what is possible in a safe space and a trusting relationship.
